It’s a bird…It’s a plane…No! It’s St. Rose Super Fan Peter Hogan

TOMS RIVER – Whether verbally or with a unique, custom-designed outfit, Peter Hogan never leaves in doubt exactly who is the number-one fan of the St. Rose girls basketball team.

I caught up with Hogan last Saturday during halftime of the Purple Roses’ [NJSIAA] Non-Public A final game against Immaculate Heart Academy, who was enjoying the state championship matchup with his friends.  When I asked Hogan what made him the St. Rose “Super Fan”, the 13-year-old felt it was simple…

“I think I am the St. Rose Super Fan because I wear the best stuff and I go to all the games,” Hogan said.  “I have the best spirit.”

Hogan’s favorite player is senior guard Morgan Barry, whose brother, Brendan, 14, along with Colin Gunther,14, and Mike Caruso,13, make up the self-proclaimed Super Fan’s cheering section.

Hogan got to enjoy a great first half from his favorite player Barry, who hit three 3-pointers to keep St. Rose in the game against the Blue Eagles, who, through two quarters, held a 20-16 lead over the Purple Roses.

“She can put the team on her back,” said Hogan of Barry.  “She makes all her 3-pointers.”

Barry would go on to score 12 points to help propel St. Rose past Immaculate Heart Academy, 42-38, for the program’s first state title since 2000.

Hogan is hoping that the Purple Roses can beat Manasquan tonight, when the two rival schools pair up  in the Tournament of Champions semifinal for a chance to play for an overall state championship at the Izod Center next week.  Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m. at the Pine Belt Arena in Toms River.

Hogan is confident that St. Rose can come away with an overall state title if the group plays its tough-style brand of basketball.

“They can go far,” he said.  “They can go all the way.”
