In the end, Wall Knights take a close division race

October 13, 2011

The Crimson Knights were crowned champions of the C Central this week, going undefeated in the division for the second year in a row with a record of 6-0-2.

The C Central was created through realignment prior to the 2010 season.

The team was tied for the division lead with Manasquan entering the final week of divisional play, but, due to a 1-1 draw between the Warriors and Point Borough last Friday, Wall was able to claim the championship outright.

“It was a rebuilding year with young kids, and it was very exciting to see them develop and win the division,” Wall head coach Nancy Gross said Tuesday.

Gross gave credit to Manasquan for making it such a tight race in 2011, as the Warriors played the Crimson Knights to two consecutive overtime ties.

“[Mana]squan really gave us a run for our money and stepped up this year,” said the coach. “It was a hard-fought division, and the girls are really excited.”

On Thursday, in its last divisional game of the season, Wall earned a 6-1 victory over Point Pleasant Borough to move to 8-0-2 on the season.

The Crimson Knights competed in a tough non-division test on Friday, when the team traveled to Rumson Fair-Haven for a game against the Bulldogs. Wall played tough defense in the game, holding on for a 1-0 victory to move to 9-0-2[see related article].

Shore Conference Tournament seeding was announced on Tuesday night, with Wall drawing the number three seed and earning a first-round bye. The team will play its first game of the tournament on on Wednesday, hosting the winner of a first round game between number 19 seed Ocean Township and the 13th seed, Middletown South.

According to Gross, the Crimson Knights will attempt to pick up games in preparation for the tournament.
