One aspiring radio host’s dreams will come true at Bar A tomorrow

August 18, 2011

The second annual WFAN Fantasy Phenom Challenge final will make its way to Lake Como tomorrow, as five eager hopefuls will compete at Bar Anticipation for a chance to land an overnight host spot on the famous New York sports radio station.

After making it through two rounds of competition in which nearly 2,000 people participated, Patrick Creighton of Bethpage, N.Y., Patrick Totaro of Brick, Mike McMaster of Basking Ridge, Neeraj Joshi of New York City, and John Jastremski of Staten Island, N.Y. will each get an opportunity to show off their skills on legendary sports radio host Mike Francesa’s “Summer Beach Party” show.

The competitors will perform interviews, do a guest spot with Francesa and complete their on-air time with a two-minute sports rant, before being judged by three sports radio professionals.

WFAN will then open up the competition to fan voting, where listeners will have a chance to vote on www.wfan.com to help determine a winner.

For Jastremski, a 2010 graduate of Syracuse University who worked for WJPZ and WAER while a student in college, winning the competition would be the realization of a life-long dream.

“If I am able to win, it would change my life — I can’t stress that enough,” Jastremski said yesterday morning. “Ever since I was a little kid I wanted to be on WFAN and have my own show. To even be in the conversation is unbelievable.”

The winner of tomorrow’s competition will get a one-year contract to host an overnight sports talk show on the station.

Jastremski said he will put aside any feelings of uneasiness and just live in the moment when he gets his chance tomorrow.

“It’s exciting, no doubt about it,” he said. “I am not necessarily nervous, because I have done this before, so I don’t want to overthink it. I am one of five people with a chance and, hopefully, I bring home the championship.”
