Squan and St. Rose rematch in SCT? One can only hope…

February 16, 2011

For those who enjoyed Saturday’s Manasquan vs. St. Rose girls basketball game [Manasquan earned a 52-42 victory] and for those who missed it, there is a possibility [if things break right] that you can catch a rematch between the two teams.

Both the Purple Roses #2 and the Warriors #6 are on the same side of the Shore Conference Tournament bracket  and with two wins a piece, would end up playing in the semifinal on February 22 at Brookdale Community College.

For the teams to meet, both would have to earn huge wins in the quarterfinal round.  My prediction is that both teams will win tomorrow in the first round. [Manasquan vs #11 Middletown South and St. Rose vs. #15 Toms River East]

However, the quarterfinal on February 20 could present a major challenge for both squads. The Roses would most likely end up playing Rumson, a team they beat earlier this season in a down to the wire finish, in which St. Rose had to come back from a 10 point halftime deficit.  The Warriors would likely face St. John Vianney [Manasquan star junior guard Michaela Mabrey’s former team] a consistent Shore Conference power that has numerous Division I recruits.

If Manasquan and St. Rose are playing on February 22, it would mean both teams just picked up HUGE wins and are playing at the top of their game, which would make for a GREAT rematch at a neutral site.

The Roses would love another crack at the Warriors after struggling offensively on Saturday and the Warriors, a young, upstart team with unlimited potential, would like to show the ability to beat a great team like St. Rose twice in a season.

Keep following The Coast Star sports blog, weekly print edition and my twitter http://twitter.com/SamCostantino to track both Manasquan and St. Rose’s progress in the SCT.
