Go Jess Go! Nevins looking to reach 1,000 points for her career

February 2, 2011

According to Wall head coach Colleen Kilmurray, Knights senior guard Jessica Nevins is exactly 105 points away from reaching the impressive 1,000 point milestone for her career.

Now I took a job in writing so I did not have to deal with math, but let me try to figure this one out…

Wall will play five more regular season games this season and at 6-10, have a shot to make it into the NJSIAA state playoffs.

If the Knights were to only get their final five regular season games, Nevins would have to average 21 points per game to hit exactly 1,000 in her final game, which would be a February 14th home game vs. Toms River South.

If the team can find its way into the tournament, the average points per game would obviously drop the deeper the team made it.  For example, even if Wall only plays one game in the states, Nevins would then need to average 17.5 points per game. Two games in the states, it would drop to 15/per game and so on..

The team and their coach would love to see their senior captain with the sweet jump shot hit the mark.

“We have been talking as a team about Jess going for 1,000 points,” said Kilmurray.  “The girls are really excited.”

Watching Nevins play this year, you can see the pure basketball skills she possesses and this would be a great exclamation point on an already stellar career.
