Manasquan swim team’s look for C Central title tomorrow

January 31, 2011

Both Manasquan swim teams will look to capture the outright C Central Division title for 2010-2011 tomorrow, when the group travels to Neptune Aquatic Center for a 4:00 p.m. meet with rival Wall High School.

Currently, both teams are a perfect 3-0 in the C Central Division, but have division foes directly in their wake.

For the girl’s [9-0 overall] they will enter the meet as favorites, taking on a young, rebuilding Wall team who has struggled to a record of 3-6 on the season.

However, Wall head coach Greg Grober is a great motivator who you can bet will have his girl’s fired up and ready to go.

The relay team of Hannah Briant, Erin Perna, Kat Kazaba and Caroline Petrone have been all but unbeatable for Manasquan this season, including taking first place in the 200 and 400 freestyle relays at the Monmouth County Swim Meet.

The boy’s meet should make for a nail-biting finish, as both teams have excelled past expectations for the season.

Currently the Warrior boys stand at 7-2, with the Knights right on their tail at 6-3 [2-1 in C Central].

A key match up in the meet will be Manasquan’s David Carlson against Wall’s Tom Frain in the 500 freestyle.  So far this season, anytime I have covered either team, both swimmers are always laps ahead of their competition in the distance event.  With the two in the pool in the same time pushing each other, it could make for a record breaking afternoon.

If you can not make it to Neptune tomorrow to watch the action unfold live, look for the full story in the February 3, 2011 issue of The Coast Star.
